Cool Museums to Visit in Cairo
Of-course we are all well familiar with the Cairo Antiquities Museum. It is one of the most beautiful and most renowned museums in the world. But did you know that there are other very cool museums in Cairo that your children will definitely enjoy?
Here is a list of some of the cool museums in Cairo that will surely entice your children's curiosity:
1- The Cairo Air force Museum
Forget about the pictures or their site. Go visit the museum yourself and you'll be wowed. It will interest both boys and girls. They can even ride in the seat of a real fighter jet. They can explore a cockpit and even try a flight simulator. This museum is so cool. My children absolutely loved it.
While you wait for exhibits to start, you can enjoy their outdoor cafeteria that also has a playground.
2- The Cairo Geological Museum/Egyptian Geology Museum:
Don't get dissuaded by the outdated sign at the door! Inside you there are many cool things to see like a dinosaur, fossils of other animals, cool rocks and much more!
3- The newly updated Museum of Islamic Art:
This museum is one of the most beautiful museums in Cairo. It just got renovated and it is really a joy to visit. It has one of the oldest handwritten copy of the Quran. #Museum of Islamic Art
4- Museum of Cheops or Museum
Also known as the Museum of Khufu's Solar Boat or Giza Solar Boat Museum, in Arabic Mathaf Markeb El Shams. This is one of my favorite museums in Cairo. When I took my students on a field trip to that museum, they claimed that it was the best trip they've ever gone on.
It was constructed next to the Great Pyramid of Khufu. The museum is equipped with modern techniques and technologies in order to preserve the solar boat. The museum lies just a few meters from where it was found on the southern side of the pyramid.
Paying for a tour guide for this museum is well worth it!

- Reassembled Khufu ship (The ship was fully re-assembled in 1968). (The ship was disassembled around the funeral rites into 1224 small pieces before being buried near the pyramids in the boat pit). The museum is constructed so as to enable viewing the boat from three different levels in three floors. In the ground floor, one can view the bottom of the boat.

- Photos of the discovery & reassembling of the ship.
Summer Outdoor Fun
Smash Kattameya Club
This destination is a personal favorite when I'm stuck in Cairo. Aside from providing a very safe environment for children, members are well selected, its facilities are well kept, the pool is very clean and it's never overcrowded.
Location: Kattameya Residence behind Porto Cairo in the 5th Settlement
Membership Required: yes but guests are welcome for an entrance fee of 60 LE (very cheap compared to dayuse prices at any hotel)
